Terry S.A, Edukayson.ph and ICTSI Foundation recently awarded a financial assistance grant dubbed as “Walk with Scholars” to three deserving Grade 11 students from selected public schools in Luzon.
Jewelle Reyes, Christine Pearl Mansano, and Kenth Gomez now enjoy the grant that covers allowances for meals, transportation, school uniform, shoes, books, projects, and other authorized fees. Meet the scholars here:
A Grade 11 ABM student from Bauan Technical High School in Batangas, Jewelle is committed to her dream of becoming a Certified Public Accountant in the future.
At such an early age, she already has a clear goal in mind, and she is set to do everything to achieve it. She shared that her family inspires her to always do her best. This is why she is very grateful that she got the grant. “Makakatulong po sa pinansyal, minsan po di makakayanan ng magulang ko. Makakatulong po ang scholarship na ito para mas mabilis na matupad ang mga pangarap namin.” (This will help our finances because sometimes, my parents can’t cover everything. This scholarship will help us achieve our goals faster.)
Her “can-do” attitude made her one of the top students in her class. Aside from being goal-oriented, she also believes that flexibility is one of the skills everyone should have. “Wag masyado padala sa stress. Don’t pressure yourself. We have to be flexible.” (Don’t get carried away with stress. Don’t pressure yourself. We have to be flexible)
Christine Pearl Mansano
Pearl, a Grade 11 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) student from Raja Soliman Science and Technology High School in Binondo, Manila, aspires to be an engineer in the future. “I dream to have a good career in the future. Getting this scholarship is a great opportunity for me to build my interests and hone my skills and talents. It also makes me want to strive harder to be a role model for my school and classmates.”
For her, this scholarship is a big help because it lessens her parents’ burden of making ends meet. “Para mabawasan po yung gagastusin sa bahay. Nakikita ko yung paghihirap ng parents ko. As a daughter, gusto ko suklian yung pagsisikap nila.” (It will lessen the expenses. I see how my parents work hard to provide for us. As a daughter, I want to give back to them.”)
Kenth dreams to be a Civil Engineer. He is now a Grade 11 STEM student from Jose Abad Santos High School. “Kahit sinasabi nila na isa sa pinaka-mahirap na strand yung STEM, I pursued it kasi gusto ko talaga at para may challenge.” (“Even though STEM is considered to be one of the most difficult strands, I still pursued it because I really want the subject, and I want to challenge myself.”)
He knows the value of education. This is why he makes sure that he prioritizes school expenses over other things. He is also very grateful that he got the scholarship because it helps him focus on studying. “Malaking tulong po talaga ‘to. Minsan nahihirapan ako mag-isip kung saan ako kukuha ng perang pambayad para sa mga bayarin sa school.” (“This is really a big help. Sometimes, I don’t even know where to get the money to pay for school expenses.”)
