All Abroad! Why You Should Consider Studying Overseas

The start of the year brings about new beginnings—fresh ways to innovate, learn, and explore. With these new experiences come new opportunities for growth, and of course, what better way to grow than to step outside of your comfort zone, right?

Studying abroad would certainly do that for you. Ask any person who’s had the opportunity to study abroad and they will tell you that it was an experience that changed their lives for the better. Not only were they able to soak up a new culture and experience it for themselves but they were also able to learn valuable life skills in the process.

For sure, living in a foreign place can be quite scary at first but what you will be able to gain from the experience far outweighs its cons. With that, here are 3 reasons why you should pursue your education abroad:

1. Life hacks galore!

Studying abroad places you in a new environment, meaning you will be pushed to adapt to your surroundings. As they say, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” In most cases, being in an entirely different country would also mean that you would have to learn how to live independently and would give you the opportunity to learn how to do things for yourself that you may not have encountered while you were living at home (i.e. doing your own laundry, cooking your own meals, using public transport, navigating, etc.).

While these things might take some getting used to, they become very valuable life skills that you would be able to take with you anywhere you go.

2.   Experience, experience, experience

If studying abroad could be summed up in one word, it would be this: experience. Your stay abroad is guaranteed to be chock-full of it and you will be greeted with new adventures nearly every day.

If you’re looking to learn about new cultures, studying abroad is the perfect opportunity to do just that. Not only will you be able to experience these cultures firsthand but you will also get to meet people from all walks of life. The new city you will be living in will treat you to a wide array of new encounters- places to explore, food to eat, sights to see, things to do. They’re all just waiting to be discovered.

3. You get to hone and develop your skills

A study called the GLOSSARI (Georgia Learning Outcomes of Students Studying Abroad Research Initiatives) Project tracked 20,000 students from the University of Georgia over a course of ten years.

The study was able to find that students who pursued their studies abroad actually performed better academically when they got back to their home universities. Additionally, employers are always on the lookout for well-rounded individuals who have a diverse range of experiences to back them up and aid them once they enter the workforce. An education abroad would certainly make for an attractive addition to your resume.
